Mitchell E. Wing

Mitchell E. Wing, 41, of Fort Belknap, passed away on Friday, August 8, 2014, at Benefis Medical Center in Great Falls of natural causes. Wake services will begin at 5:00 p.m. on Monday, August 11, 2014, at the Chief Nosey Center in Lodgepole, and will continue until his traditional funeral service, which will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 12, 2014. Burial will be in the Lodgepole Cemetery. Holland & Bonine Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements. Mitchell was born on October 4, 1972, in Pine Ridge, SD, to Burl and Shirley (Yellow Horse) Wing. He was raised in Pine Ridge, SD, and Fort Belknap, MT, graduating from Flandreau Indian School in 1993. After graduation, he returned to Fort Belknap, where he married Stella Walker, also in 1993. The couple made their home in the Fort Belknap area, where they finished raising Stella's two children. Mitchell worked as a firefighter and a lineman, and he also cared for his grandchildren while their parents worked.

Mitchell was an avid reader, who loved watching sports, especially football. He was a huge Denver Broncos fan. He also enjoyed fishing, but he absolutely cherished the time he spent caring for his grandchildren.

Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, Burl and Shirley (Yellow Horse) Wing; his brother Robert Wing; his grandmother Mary Agnes Bird; and other extended family members.

He is survived by Stella Walker, his beloved wife of 20 years, of Fort Belknap; his step-children Mike (Santee Clark) Healy of Havre, and Michelle Healy of Harlem; his grandchildren Mike Denny, and Cassidy, Cassius, and Crysie Johnson; his brothers Frank (Michelle) Thunder Horse of Wounded Knee, SD, and Gilbert Thunder Horse of Sioux Falls, SD; his uncles Orville Bird and James (Viola) Bird, all of Great Falls, Dennis Wing of Harlem, Melvin Wing of CO, and Joseph Wing of Lodgepole; his aunt Elmira Wing of Lodgepole; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family.
