Boys & Girls Club membership grows

The Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line had to cap its membership only four days into the school year, the earliest this has ever happened since the cap was instituted in 2008.

"Usually it takes a few weeks to get to our limit of 200 kids attending each day," said Club Director Tim Brurud. "But this time it caught us by surprise."

The club's dinner program - which has moved to the Teen Center while the new kitchen is under construction - was also feeling the pinch.

"On the second day of school we ran out of chili," said McKay Olson, who runs the program. "I had to find something else to serve."

The club's building expansion is underway, and the multi-purpose room and full-service kitchen are anticipated to be open by February. The new space will allow the club to serve 25 percent more kids each day, and the new kitchen will enhance the food program's ability to serve healthy meals and snacks.

People can help the club open the door to more kids by making a donation today at http://www.bgchi-line.com or mailing a check to PO Box 68, Havre MT 59501.
