Festival Days geared up for 34th celebration

Loving our Havre treasures

Havre: Loving our Treasures is the theme for the 34th celebration of Havre Festival Days.

Activities start Friday, Sept. 19, with the Friends of the Library Book Sale, the quilt show and the 48-Hour Softball Tournament. For the car buffs in the area, the Big Sky Auto Club is hosting a car show. If sports is a liking, the Blue Pony and Skylights volleyball teams with be at home.

Saturday is full of fun things to do. Start the day with breakfast at the Kiwanis Pancake breakfast, a Havre tradition for over 50 years. The big event of the weekend is always the parade Saturday morning. Town Square will be host for the last Saturday Market of the season. The Festival Days Commercial Products and Craft Show opens Saturday and continues through Sunday at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.

A demo derby is scheduled for the afternoon at the fairgrounds. The evening continues to offer entertainment. One can attend the opening debut of the Glacier Nationals hockey team at the Havre Ice Dome or enjoy the Montana Actors’ Theatre presentation of Death by Chocolate.”

Sunday isn’t short of things to do. Catch the last day of the 48-Hour Softball Tournament, the quilt show, the craft and commercial show or the library book sale.

Get a Sunday walk or run by participating in the Festival Run/Walk. Registration is at noon, and the event starts at 1 p.m. Another fun event is the Havre Youth Baseball Annual Ball Drop Fundraiser that takes place on hospital hill.

There are a couple of events to participate in over the weekend that registration is needed: the parade, the run/walk and the crafts and commercial show.

People interested in participating in any of these events, can stop by the Chamber to pick up a registration form.

Commemorative mugs and buttons will again be available. The mugs and buttons will feature this year’s logo.

Don’t forget to purchase a Festival Days button as there are some great prizes that could be won. Triangle Communications has donated a seven-inch 16GB Kindle Fire HD tablet and a portable powerbank with flashlight to charge mobile devices, donated by Hill County Electric Cooperative. Cape Air has donated a package of two tickets for another winner. These winning button numbers will be announced Friday, Sept 19.

The Chamber will draw a series of six random numbers for each day, Monday, Sept. 15, through Friday, Sept. 19. Those holding a button with a winning number will win a Chamber Gift Certificate in varying denominations or a Festival Days commemorative mug. To claim a prize, people can stop by the Chamber with the winning button.
