Local Bowling Report: A brand new season of bowling is here

Ten Pin Chatter

The new season is now upon us, with all the leagues in full swing and scores are respectable considering the long layoff over the summer months.

Over the summer, the Havre Men's, Women's, and Youth USBC associations voted to merge. They are now one association with an association manager to do all the paper work and to be the “go to guy.” That lucky person who took on the challenge is Shawn Mariani, who I am sure will do an excellent job. A USBC representative from Billings was present during the merger and helped with the transition. Thursday, Sept. 4, a meeting was held to finalize everything.

By the way the women outnumbered the men about 3-1.

An election was held and the following folks were elected: Barry Zanto, president, Julie Rodgers, first vice president, and Shawn Holden, second vice president. Three directors were also elected in Dianne Watson, Minnow Mariani and Donna Tilleman. The youth director is Dusty Kinsella.

Hi-Line Lanes was chosen for the 2015 State Senior Tournament. It will be held the first three weekends in October. This year’s tournament is being held in Thompson Falls starting Sept. 26 and running through Oct. 19. Anyone 50 or over may bowl. Entry blanks are at the lanes for anyone wanting to go to Thompson Falls.

As bowlers enter the lanes this year they might want to take note of the ball returns. A nice fresh coat of paint was put on and brightened up the establishment.

During July, Faye and I traveled to Boise, Idaho, for a week-long management school. Yes, school at our age. It was probably the best one I have ever attended in my long history of bowling. We both came away with a lot of new ideas and energized. It was well worth the trip.

Now, on a sad note, May 18, in the afternoon, our boss and part-owner Debbie Buxbaum lost her battle with cancer and passed away with her family at her side. She was a fine lady and I am proud to have known her and worked for her.

Till next week keep smiling and follow through.
