Homecoming celebrations continue

Tonight, there will be a bonfire at the Great Northern Fairgrounds, which is yet another Havre High School homecoming tradition being revived this year.

“They’re just trying to get the school spirit back at Havre High and let the kids have fun,” said Lisa Kudrna, parent of an HHS student.

Pizza Hut and Domino’s Pizza are each donating 15 large pizzas and Kmart is donating beverages.

The bonfire used to be held at the football field, but the schools lost the practice years ago. Fairgrounds Manager Tim Solomon agreed to let the bonfire be held at the fairgrounds.

After school lets out today, around 3:30, the students are also bashing a car in effigy of the Belgrade Panthers, their opponent in the homecoming game this Friday. Last year, a vehicle was decorated in the opposing team’s colors and then the general bashing of said vehicle commenced.

The classes, freshman through senior, each built their own float to take down 5th Avenue 4 p.m. Friday.

“I’m pretty pleased (with their floats),” said Jane Warp, the pep club adviser at the high school. “They’re very ambitious.”

The parade will feature the floats, the Havre High School marching band, the cheerleaders, the homecoming royalty, the Blue Pony and the football team and will travel down 5th Avenue from the high school to 6th Street and back.

The Havre Blue Ponies will face the Belgrade Panthers at 7 p.m. Friday at Blue Pony Stadium.
