Obituary - Timothy Martin Solem

Timothy Martin Solem died of complications from multiple sclerosis at his home in Missoula, Montana, Oct. 17, 2014.  A vigil will be held Friday, Oct.  24, 2014, at 7 p.m. at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 25, 2014, at 11 a.m at St. Gabriel's Catholic Church in Chinook. Tim was born Dec. 11, 1963, in Missoula, to William M. and Ellen (Gallus) Solem. At the age of 4, he moved to Chinook with his parents and his sister, Liz Ann.  He attended Meadowlark Grade School and Chinook High School. He was involved in AAU wrestling, swim team and high school football and basketball. He worked for Wes Knight Construction in Chinook and Oxnard, California, learning the carpentry business.

In 1994, he returned to Missoula, and worked for Lindley Cabinets, where he met the love his life, Laura Sarmiento, and her young son, Gus. Tim and Laura were married Aug. 5, 2000, and raised Gus to adulthood before divorcing in 2011.

Tim enjoyed golfing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, coaching pee-wee wrestling and U of M Grizzly football games. He operated his own cabinet installation business as the "Cabinet Guy" for several years, before being diagnosed with MS.

He became active in the Missoula MS group and was proud to earn a T-shirt in each of the five years he participated in the "Walk for MS" fundraisers.

Tim is survived by his parents, William and Ellen Solem of Chinook; his sisters, Liz Lybeck (Mohammed Boutkarit), and Eloise (Mike) Jergeson, both of Missoula; brother, Ted (Heather) Solem, of Spokane, Washington; niece, Whitney (Patrick) Wicks of Chester; and their children, Lane Wicks and Hadley Wicks; nephews, Jordon Lybeck, Hank Jergeson and Will Jergeson all of Missoula; ex-wife, Laura and stepson, Gus; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
