Local teen takes highest NRA honor

The Veterans of Foreign War Bear Paw Jr. Rifle Club has honored a local teen.

Noah Molitor, 14, of Havre was awarded the Distinguished Expert Rifleman title Nov. 11.

This is the highest National Rifle Association honor.

"Once I got to kneeling and offhand, I couldn't miss more than four (bull's-eyes) - and two for sitting and prone," Molitor said.

Molitor also said that guns have been part of his family and that his favorite part about shooting is "how much concentration it takes."

Laura Martin, a coach at the rifle club, said she is proud of Molitor's accomplishment.

"Personally, I think it's great," Martin said. "As a coach you learn the nuances of each kid. You can tell if they're on, if they're off. ... That's my job basically - to cheerlead and get them motivated to do better," she said.

Molitor has been a member of the VFW Bear Paw Jr. Rifle Club for three years and has shot in three state and national matches, placing in both team and individual events.

Molitor is the son of Jon and Carrie Molitor and is an eighth-grader at Havre Middle School.

The junior rifle club has been in the Havre area since the 1930s. It is open from September to April and meets every Monday and Tuesday from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the basement of the fire department on 4th Street.

For more information, people can call 265-1655 and ask for Randy or Laura Martin.
