Honors set for Northern student in Cat-Griz game

Montana State University-Northern

Saturday during the half-time of the Cat-Griz football game, Montana State University-Northern student Hunter Chandler will receive the Montana Athletes in Service Award from the Montana Campus Compact.

MTCC is a nonprofit organization focused on improving community life and students’ futures. Each year the MTCC board recognizes student-athletes who have shown a great commitment to community service.

For the past five years, Chandler has been volunteering in local communities such as Havre, Fort Belknap, Hays, Dodson, Rocky Boy and Bozeman.

He has put in many hours with the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line, volunteering with numerous activities at the club. He has also volunteered at the Bear Paw Credit Union Annual Youth Day the previous three years.  Chandler makes frequent trips to the local reservation communities — Fort Belknap, Hays and Rocky Boy — to speak and interact with the students from grades K-12.

He has volunteered frequently at the White Clay Immersion School at Fort Belknap.

Chandler is majoring in secondary education with a minor in business and will graduate in the spring.
