Havre High School names two Students of the Month

Richard Belcourt has been chosen as one of Havre High School's November 2014 Students of the Month. Richard is the son of Tamara and Randy Belcourt and brother of Matthew, 19. He is 17 years old and a junior.

Richard said he enjoys hanging out with his friends and family. He also enjoys playing sports and chess.

Richard was nominated by two of his teachers in November. Mary Wagner and Mandy Nitz have both expressed how happy they have been to have Richard in their classes. Richard works well with his classmates and is quick to help those around him.

Wagner said Richard gets his work done quickly in class and then helps his classmates if they are struggling.

"He can explain math in such a way the students understand it, and he does it so modestly that they don't even realize he is helping them. ... He asks good questions and really wants to learn."

Nitz said Richard "not only has a great attitude about his class work, he's also polite, kind and thoughtful. I'm so glad he comes to our school."

Richard hopes to go to college.

Sarah Holsinger has been chosen as Havre High's other November Student of the Month. Sarah is the daughter of Torey and Melissa Holsinger and sister of Brittany, 22, and Brian, 21. She is 17 years old and a junior.

Sarah said she doesn't have a lot of free time due to her heavy schedule, but when she does have time she likes to read and sleep. She is involved in P.A.S.S. at school. In addition to this she is taking a college class at Montana State University-Northern and working at Northern Montana Care Center.

Sarah was nominated by two of her teachers this month, Melissa Efta and Anna Joy, who said they have enjoyed having Sarah in their classes and are pleased to nominate her for Student of the Month.

Joy said she enjoys having Sarah in class because Sarah provides thoughtful participation and prompts deeper discussions among her peers. She is respectful, inquisitive and a great contribution to class.

Efta said Sarah is a quiet, pleasant young woman.

"She has great work habits and always follows through when assigned a task. Despite working 12-15 hours per week at the Care Center, she manages to pull straight A's at school. She is an asset to the school and to the Havre community."

Sarah will continue her education at Montana State University-Northern and will then transfer to Carroll College in Helena for a degree as a nurse midwife.
