Library News and Views

By Rachel Rawn

We here at the Havre-Hill County Library would like to extend a big thanks to Mike and Darcy Zook, who led the first discussion in our 2015 Winter Reading Series.

We discussed the book “Orphan Train” by Christina Baker Cline and had a great turnout. Thank you to everybody who attended. We would also like to thank The Friends of the Library who sponsor the Winter Reading Series and provide treats. And thank you to Humanities Montana, who provided us with an Opportunity Grant.

We use the funds from Humanities Montana to purchase copies of the books discussed, so if you are interested in joining in the discussion please come pick up a copy of the next book, “Anne of Green Gables” by L.M. Montgomery. At the age of 11 Anne is adopted by Matthew and Marilla Cuthbert and goes to live on their farm, Green Gables. In this first book of the Anne series, we see our heroine adapt to her new home in Avonlea and make friends of everyone she meets. Anne is clever, talkative, and has a lively imagination. She is truly a wonderful character to get to know. You won’t want to stop with this book, and luckily the library has all the books in the Anne series available to be checked out.

There has been a slight change in the Winter Reading Series schedule; we have swapped the dates for “4th of July Creek” and “Let Him Go.” Here is the new schedule:

• Jan. 22: “Anne of Green Gables” by L.M. Montgomery, discussion leader Penny Hughes-Briant

• Feb. 5: “The Education of Little Tree” by Forrest Carter, discussion leader Marilee Russell

• Feb. 19: “Let Him Go” by Larry Watson, discussion leader John Snider

• March 5: “4th of July Creek” by Smith Henderson, discussion leader Will Rawn

All discussions are Thursdays at 7 p.m.

These discussions are free and open to the public. All books are available to be checked out now at the Havre-Hill County Library. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us at 265-2123 or email us at [email protected].
