Cynthia Ann Murie

Cynthia Ann Murie, "Pi-si-mo-k kah-wi-se- wah-t", Walks With The Sun, was called home to our Creator's kingdom on Jan. 16, 2015. Wake services will begin at 4 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 16, 2015, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rocky Boy and will continue until her traditional funeral service, which will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, also at St. Mary's. Cynthia was born May 20, 1946, to Mary Little Sun and Pete Lawrence Murie. She led a full and abundant life, holding a career as an addiction counselor. Cynthia was the first Native American woman in the state of Montana to be state certified in the chemical dependency field. She had a vibrant personality, whose kindness and compassion toward others showed her true nature. Her artistic abilities were displayed in her beautiful beadwork, and she enjoyed attending and participating in powwows, as well. She loved being around people and gambling. Her wealth is left in the form of her loving children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She will be missed greatly.

Cynthia married Martin Standing Rock, and they had three children. After her husband passed, she had two daughters will Allen Nault.

Cynthia was preceded in death by her husband, Martin Standing Rock; her parents, Pete Murie and Mary Little Sun; her sister-in-law, Sandra Murie; her grandsons, Porfirio Zarco Jr. and Kyle Standing Rock; and her great-grandson, Walks With Moon.

Cynthia is survived by her sons, Brian (Kathy) Standing Rock of Wind River, Wyoming, and Duane (Linell) Standing Rock of Rocky Boy; her daughters, Marvina (Porfirio) Zarco and Chantell Nault (Kent Stump), all of Rocky Boy, and Rose Nault (Martin Garcia) of Idaho; her 21 grandchildren; her 15 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Lois Gopher, Jolene (Doug) Crebs, Sharon (Leonard Sr.) Cantrell, Sandra Stump, and Odessa (Andrew) Medicine Horse, all of Rocky Boy; her brothers, Robert Murie, William (Marge) Lodgepole, Leslie Lodgepole, Duane Lodgepole and Donovan (Terrie) Stump, all of Rocky Boy; and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family and friends.
