Montana outfitter faces various charges

HELENA . (AP) — A 72-year-old Montana outfitter who pleaded guilty in 2005 to illegal outfitting on a national forest faces new charges, including illegally taking four mountain lions.

LaMonte J. Schnur owns Monte's Guiding & Mountain Outfitting in Townsend.

The charges against him include outfitting on federal public lands without a proper permit, employing an unlicensed guide, unlawful possession of a game animal and unprofessional conduct.

He has pleaded not guilty.

The 18-count indictment against Schnur stems from four mountain lions taken in Broadwater County in 2012 and a charge from 2014 for outfitting outside of his operation plan in Wheatland County.

The Independent Record reports (http://bit.ly/1Cbl2ix) that Schnur will have a pretrial hearing on Jan. 28 in Broadwater County.
