City hopes to keep storm water from sewer system

Havre city government is launching an effort to separate storm water from its sewer system.

If the city is successful, it will result in considerable savings on sewer bills, Mayor Tim Solomon said.

Lots of ground water that does not have to go through the expensive treatment that sewage must undergo is seeping into the sewer system, he said.

The effort is being undertaken in conjunction with the federally mandated upgrades to the city’s wastewater treatment plant, he said. Bids will be opened on the project in two weeks, he said.
