HHS swimmers finish in Helena

The Havre High boys and girls swim teams can now officially focus all their attention on the 2015 Class A State Swimming Championships. That’s because the Blue Ponies put the finishing touches on their 2014-15 schedule this past weekend.

Saturday, Havre was in Helena for the annual Bohn-Moer Helena Invitational, which took place at the Carroll College Poll. It was Havre’s final meet of the regular season, and the Blue Pony girls finishes in ninth place with 58 team points. The Havre boys placed 11th with 10 total points in a meet that featured Class AA powers Missoula Hellgate, Bozeman and Helena High. In all, 12 teams were in the pool Saturday. Hellgate swept the boys and girls team titles, while Bozeman was second in both meets.

Individually, it was a quiet day for the Ponies, who were in Helena to fine-tune for the upcoming state meet. On the girls side, Amelia Miller finished second (27.13) and Aubri McCann (27.60) fifth in the 50-meter freestyle. Miller, a freshman, had a strong overall day as she swam to a fifth-place finish in the 500 free with a time of 6:06.79. Hannah Pepprock also placed sixth for the Ponies in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:18.14, while McCann placed eighth.

On the boys side, Havre didn’t have any top six times, but the Ponies did swim well. Senior Ben Seigel placed ninth in the 50 free 100 free to lead the way for the Ponies.

Now, Havre will have a week to prepare for the state meet, which takes place Feb. 13-14 in Missoula.
