Obituary - Carl Frederick "Fred" Rigg

Carl Frederick "Fred" Rigg, 88, a lifelong resident of Rudyard and U.S. Army veteran of World War II,  died Feb. 20, 2015, at Liberty Medical Center in Chester.

Fred was born March 31, 1926, at Rudyard. He graduated from Rudyard High School in 1944, then served in the military from 1944-46. He married Luanna Elling on Dec. 27, 1951. Fred managed Farmer's Union Oil Company in Rudyard for 40-plus years, then retired in 1987.  The Riggs moved to the Chester nursing facility this past year.

Memberships include the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Elks and Hi-Line Antique Auto Club. Some of his hobbies were wood carving, snowmobiling, hunting, bowling, RC airplanes and auction sales.

Fred is survived by his wife of 63 years, Luanna Rigg of Chester; three sons, Neal and Laurie Rigg of Chinook, Lane Rigg of Rudyard, and Wade and Denise Rigg of Rudyard; two granddaughters, Stella and Sydney; and his brother-in-law, Fred and Elva Elling of Rudyard.

Memorial services will be 11  a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 24, at the New Beginnings Lutheran Church in Rudyard.  Burial of ashes will follow in Rudyard Cemetery with military rites.  A luncheon will be held at the church. Arrangements are by Rockman Funeral Chapel in Chester.  Memorials may be given to the Rudyard Museum or New Beginnings Lutheran Church.
