Paranormal researcher, psychic medium investigates Northern

Paranormal researcher and psychic medium Chris Moon led ghost investigations on the campus of Montana State University-Northern Thursday night during the "Moon Family Psychic Experience." Moon's mother, Paulette, who is also a psychic, did tarot card readings at the event as well.

Moon said he had his first paranormal experience at the age of 7.

"I woke up in the middle of the night, and there was an apparition of a little boy standing at the end of my bed who didn't speak," he said.

Moon said he came to Northern about four or five years ago.

"I love coming here. It's so much fun - the students here are just amazing," he said.

Moon said he started his paranormal career in 2002. He is aware that not everyone agrees with what he does.

"The last time that I was here there was actually a Bible sit-in group that was doing a protest on the show. They said it was evil, terrible and bad, which of course we don't promote anything evil, terrible and bad," he said. "If anything, we're trying to prove the existence of a higher power that's out there. When it came down to it, that group actually took part in the hunt afterwards and said, 'They're not doing anything terrible here.'"

Moon and his mother started off the event by giving the audience a presentation about themselves and the paranormal world.

During the presentation, Moon showed the audience the completed model of Thomas Edison's "Telephone to the Dead." This device allows two-way audio communication with those who have died.

Moon said a man named Frank Sumption completed the model.

After the presentation, Moon led ghost investigations in Donaldson Hall and Morgan Hall on the campus. The Telephone to the Dead was used in the investigations.

At Morgan Hall, several participants experienced communicating through the Telephone to the Dead with those who have died.

Cassy Taberna, a junior at Northern, said that she heard from her Uncle Jerry who died 10 years ago from melanoma cancer.

Taberna thought that this was a "good event to have at the school."

"During the event I was able to capture several unique pictures of spirit orbs which were truly fascinating and crazy to see," she said.

Taberna added that she understands the controversy behind some people's opinions concerning the paranormal world.

"But again, I believe this was a safe way for students with curiosity toward things like this to be safe and learn," she said. "I personally am happy that they came to Northern and did the paranormal investigation because I've always been curious about the realism of paranormal activity."

Following the investigations, attendees had the opportunity to get one-on-one readings from Paulette.

Paulette said that she realized she was psychic when she was a child and that she started reading tarot cards at 8 years old.

"We love helping people - answering questions that they might have," she said. "It's really fascinating."
