Regional science fair is March 10 at MSU-Northern

The Hi-Line Regional Science Fair will be held at Montana State University-Northern’s Student Union Building Tuesday, March 10.

Students in grades 5-12 from Culbertson to Chester to Turner will attend to compete for awards, prizes and recognition.

This fair has been held on the campus for 24 years. Approximately 150 students will be interviewed by judges several times throughout the day, starting at 9 a.m. The morning session of judging ends at about 12:30 p.m. with the afternoon judging beginning at 1:30 p.m. The projects are open to the public starting at about 3 p.m. when judging is complete for the day.

The awards ceremony is slated for 4:30 p.m. in the Hagener Science Center and is open to the public.

Grades 5 through 8 students are eligible for cash prizes and awards.

High school students can vie for a chance to win prizes, cash awards and an all-expense paid trip to the International Science and Engineering Fair that will be held this year in Philadelphia.

Other Montana regional fairs are held in Great Falls, Butte, Billings, with the state fair held in Missoula.

The coordinator for the event is Mel Schwarzbach, a teacher at Big Sandy High School, and the judging coordinator is Mardy Demarais, a retired Malta High School teacher
