Three Lights honored

Three Montana State University-Northern men's basketball players were honored for their season following Tuesday night's Frontier Conference championship game in Lewiston, Idaho.

The league released its 2014-15 All-Conference Team and postseason awards Tuesday night, and Northern's Corbin Pearson, Warren Edmonson and Trevail Lee all made the list.

Pearson earned All-Conference honors for the third year in a row, and in his senior season, was named Second Team. This season, his last at MSU-N, Pearson averaged 13 points and seven rebounds per game, but in his final 10 games of the season, in which Northern won eight, he averaged closer to 18 points and eight rebounds per outing. Last month, Pearson also passed the 1,000-point barrier, becoming only the 18th Light in school history to do so.

Lee and Edmonson were newcomers to the MSU-N program this season, but both had an immediate impact on the Lights. Both players earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors. Edmonson averaged 13 points and led the Lights with 69 3-pointers. Lee averaged 11 points and four assists for MSU-N and also made 60 treys on the season.

UM-Western's Dexter Williams Jr., was named the Frontier Men's Player of the Year, while Western senior Kris Castro was named Defensive Player of the Year, and head coach Steve Keller earned Coach of the Year honors. Both Williams Jr., and Bulldog teammate Stephan McCall were named First-Team All-Conference as well.

Other awards included Jake Wiley of Frontier champion LC State sharing Newcomer of the Year with Williams Jr., while Carroll's Oliver Carr was named Freshman of the Year and LC State's Gavin Kauffman and Rocky Mountain College's Taylor Longo shared Sixth Man of the Year honors.

Northern, Western, LC State, RMC and Montana Tech all had three All-Conference selections, while UGF and Carroll each had two and Westminster had one.

In Tuesday night's championship game, LC State thumped Western 82-55 to earn the Frontier's automatic bid to next week's NAIA national tournament in Kansas City.
