Jeanne was born on Feb. 24, 1938, in Rocky Boy to Big Knife and Flora (Stump) Big Knife. She was raised in Rocky Boy, attending schools in both Rocky Boy and Box Elder. In 1967, Jeanne married Clement Hobbs in Rocky Boy, and their union was blessed with three children. Jeanne worked as a cook for Rocky Boy and Box Elder schools for many years, before moving on to work for Rocky Boy law enforcement as both a detention officer and a juvenile probation officer. She remained with law enforcement for many years before retiring.

As a young woman, Jeanne broke horses, and her love for them never diminished. As she got older, she enjoyed helping her children, nieces and nephews with their 4-H projects, and attending pow wows, especially the dancing, in which she participated wholeheartedly. But for Jeanne, her family was her world, and spending time with them gave her great joy.

Jeanne was preceded in death by her siblings, Dorothy, John and Ruby Big Knife; her grandsons, Everett Hobbs, Justin Big Knife and Willie Roy Big Knife; her granddaughter Jovan Willow; her nephews, Rodney Four Colors, Conrad Merasty, Louis Merasty, Mahlon Gunn Jr. and Walt Jay Big Knife; and her niece, Clara Merasty.

She is survived by her husband, Clement Hobbs of Havre; her daughter, Susan (Donald) Whitehorse of Rocky Boy; her sons, Stephen (Rachel) and John (Coretta) Hobbs Sr., all of Rocky Boy; her nine grandchildren; her three great-grandchildren; her sisters, Mary (Joseph) Merasty of Meadowlake, Saskatchewan, Canada, Alice (Paul) Little Head of Lame Deer, Montana, and Minnie and Evelyn Big Knife, both of Rocky Boy; her brothers, Joe (Roberta) Big Knife of Rocky Boy, and Sky (Yvonne) Big Knife of Fort Washakie, Wyoming; and numerous beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
