Library News and Views

Library director, Havre-Hill County Library

It’s spring! I think. Birds are out and there’s no snow on the ground, close enough,

And with spring (or something like it) comes the end of our annual Winter Reading Series.

We had a great year and wonderful discussions, thanks to everybody who helped out and participated in one of our favorite annual programs.

Thank you to Humanities Montana for generously providing us with a grant to cover half the costs of our books.

We bought 20 copies of four of the titles we read and discussed.

Now that the program is over the books are assembled into discussion kits and loaned to libraries and book clubs all across Montana. If you’re interested in seeing what kits are available, check out the full list at http://montanabookclubcentral.pbworks.com/w/page/21638980/Book%20Club%20Discussion%20Kits.

And thank you to the Havre-Hill County Friends of the Library, the other sponsor of our Winter Reading Series. They even brought treats.

We would also like to thank our wonderful guest speakers who did a fantastic job in leading us in our enthusiastic discussions.

Mike and Darcy Zook led us in our discussion of “Orphan Train” and told us about their personal experience with adoption.

Penny Hughes-Briant drove all the way from Great Falls to lead us in our discussion of “Anne of Green Gables,” a crowd favorite.

Marilee Russell, a professor at Stone Child College, led is in our discussion of the controversial “The Education of Little Tree,” and did a wonderful job guiding us through murky waters.

John Snider, professor at Montana State University-Northern, took us through a superb discussion on “Let Him Go.”

And finally, thank you to Will Rawn, professor at Northern, who led us through our discussion on the difficult yet rewarding, “Fourth of July Creek.”

Now that the Winter Reading Series is over (and it’s maybe spring), it’s time for new beginnings.

April 16 we will begin showing movies every other Thursday evening at 7 p.m. Details will be announced in About Town and on the radio, so keep an eye/ear out.

If you have any questions please give us a call at 265-2123, or email us at [email protected].
