2015 Havre Daily All Hi-Line Girls Team

Every year, it seems like the Hi-Line, and Havre are a hotbed for some great girls basketball. Year-after-year, that seems to be a constant.

And the 2014-15 girls basketball season was no different. This winter was a showcase for some great high school girls basketball, including another tremendous season by the Havre Blue Ponies, and an exciting new District 9C, which was loaded with talent.

So, another great season of high school girls basketball is also reflected in the eighth annual Havre Daily News All Hi-Line Girls Team. The 2015 team has a pretty fresh look to it as only two players were on the list a year ago, with 10 first-time selections. The list is represented with seven seniors, two juniors and two sophomores, and for the second straight year, no freshmen were voted onto the squad.

By school, three Blue Ponies made the list for the fifth straight time, while Chinook also had three players named, along with two from North Star. Four more area schools are also represented.

Morgan Mazurkiewicz, Havre

Mazurkiewicz is now a three-time All Hi-Line selection. And she was the top vote-getter after an incredible senior campaign in which she averaged more than 17 points per game, and helped the Blue Ponies to another state tournament appearance.

Mazurkiewicz is a four-year starter for Blue Pony head coach Dustin Kraske, and she played in four straight state tournaments, including helping HHS win the 2014 Class A state championship. She is a three-time Central A All-Conference selection, and she was a unanimous pick for the Class A All-State team this season. She also earned Class A All-Tournament honors two weeks ago at the state tourney in Hamilton.

Dani Wagner, Havre

The outstanding junior from Havre High is making her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. Wagner had a breakout campaign for the Ponies as she averaged 13 points and was in the Top Five in the Central A in rebounding and steals. The 2014-15 season was Wagner’s first as a starter, and she earned Central A and All-State honors for her efforts. However, Wagner is also a three-year varsity player, having played a key role on the 2014 state championship team, and she will likely be considered one of the top returning players in Class A next season.

Katelyn Neibauer, Chinook

Neibauer is making her second straight appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. The 5-10 senior helped lead Chinook to its fourth straight Northern C appearance this season, as well as the 9C regular season championship. Neibauer, a three-time Class C All-State selection, was also the 9C’s leading scorer in her senior campaign, and in a brilliant career, she helped Chinook win back-to-back 9C postseason championships. Neibauer is committed to continue her basketball career at Rocky Mountain College.

Allix Goldhahn, Chester/J-I

Just a sophomore, Goldhahn is already one of the most exciting and prolific players in the area. She makes her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team after earning Class C All-State honors this past season. Goldhahn averaged nearly 20 points per game this season, and was one of the top 3-point shooters in the Northern C. She’s an outstanding athlete who can play multiple positions and for the next two years, she’ll certainly be one of the top players to watch in Class C girls basketball.

Jai-Lynne Day Child, Rocky Boy

The All Hi-Line Team has always had a strong Rocky Boy presence, and Day Child fills that spot this season. The senior guard led the Morning Stars to one of their best overall records since joining the District 1B, and she also led the team in scoring at nearly 15 points per game. Day Child was also Rocky Boy’s top rebounder on her way to earning Class B All-State honors for the first time and District 1B honors for the second straight season.

Brooke Nicholson, Chinook

The second of three Chinook players on the list, Nicholson has already started at point guard for the Beeters for three straight seasons. In her junior year, she averaged 11 points and five assists per game in helping Chinook win the regular season 9C title, and reach the Northern C for the third time in her career. Nicholson is one of many three-sport stars on the All Hi-Line Team, and while she’s making her first appearance on the list, she also earned Class C All-State honors for the first time in her career this season as well.

Tylynn Rettig, North Star

Rettig has had a strong career for the Knights, but she’s also had to battle injury problems throughout. Despite missing a chunk of her senior campaign with an injury, she still averaged 10 points and five rebounds per game on her way to earning 9C All-Conference honors for the third straight season. Rettig will continue her college athletic career in track and field, but she also finished her high school basketball career by helping the Knights to two Northern C appearances, and by earning her first selection to the All Hi-Line Team.

Leilani Gardipee, Box Elder

The Bears made a great run this season, including earning an appearance in the 9C championship game and winning a game at the Northern C Divisional for the first time in four years. Gardipee, a senior guard, helped all that happen. A two-time All-9C selection, Gardipee averaged 14 points per game this year for the Bears and is making her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team.

Cassidy McCarthy, Fort Benton

This is the first year that the All Hi-Line Team includes players from Fort Benton, and McCarthy was an easy choice. The junior guard averaged 15 points per game, and was one of the top scorers at last month’s 9C tournament in helping lead the Longhorns to the 9C championship in their first try. McCarthy also earned All-District honors for the second straight year, as she earned 8C honors as a sophomore. And she’ll be back next season as one of the top players in the new-look 9C.

Naomi Terry, Havre

Terry made a splash in her first season as a starter for the Blue Ponies. The sophomore guard can play multiple positions on the floor, and it showed as she averaged 10 points and four rebounds per night in helping a reloaded Pony squad reach the Class A state semifinals earlier this month in Hamilton. Terry and Wagner will also return for the Ponies next season to form one of the most dynamic tandems in all of Class A basketball. Terry, who earned Second-Team All-Conference honors this season, is also making her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team.

Mackenzie Hansen, North Star

Hansen, a senior point guard for the Knights, is also making her first appearance on the All Hi-Line Team. Throughout her career, Hansen has always been a rock-steady guard, and this season she led the Knights in both scoring and assists. She was also one of the top 3-point shooters in the 9C on her way to All-Conference honors for the second straight year.

Hannah Weber, Chinook

Weber is the third player from Chinook to make the All Hi-Line Team. She’s also making her first appearance on the list after she earned Class C All-State honors in her final season as a Beeter. The guard/forward averaged 10 points per game in helping Chinook to the regular season 9C title and its fourth appearance at the Northern C in her four years as a Sugarbeeter.

Editor’s Note: The All Hi-Line Girls Team is voted on by available head coaches in the area, as well as by the Havre Daily News sports staff. The list does not reflect the opinion of any single individual. The 2015 All Hi-Line Boys Team will be published in next Monday’s Havre Daily News.
