Hi-Line United hit the pitch

United soccer club fielding two teams this season

Some might think of just tennis, track and softball when it comes to spring sports, but there is another sport that gets things going around Havre in the spring time and that’s soccer.

Around here, that means Hi-Line United club soccer.

The Hi-Line United is a local club soccer team that competes against other club soccer teams from around the state of Montana. And this year, as in the past, there will be one team for up to 19-year-olds (U19) and one that is for 14-year-olds and under (U14).

The U19 team, which will be led by first-year head coach John Harkins, competes at what is called the Classic level. And although they will play teams from other classifications, they will compete against teams from their grouping, who are co-ed like they are, in mid-June for what is akin to a state tournament.

“We have a good mix of players,” Harkins said. “We have a transfer student that is really talented and a couple of other kids that are interested in playing in college. But we also have some inexperienced kids that haven’t played a whole lot. But, the teams we compete against are in the same boat as we are, and I think we will able to hold our own.”

The members of the U19 team include William Archocha, Kambri Bender, Marcio Camara, Alec Drew, Trinnity Gobin, Marriah Hindman, Corey Lloyd, Michelle Rainey, Brandon Robertson, Trey Scofield, Trenton Smith, Olivia Snyder, Mitchell Woods, Steven David, Juan Valdez, Clifford Lenhardt and Lawrence Ilar-Duque.

The U14 team will be led by head coach Jayson Burrington, who once played for the U19 team and is also in his first season as head coach. His team, which opens its season April 11 in Havre against Sidney and Miles City, also has a lot to look forward to.

“We are looking to build as a team and learn,” Burrington said. “Basically, we want to become one, become a family. We have some new beginners but things have been going great. The kids really do well working with each other and making each other better.”

The players who will make up the U14 team include Sean Borrero, Mick Chagnon, August Eacker, Christina Fisk, Cole Hanson, Collin Hindman, Kati Hindman, Sawyer Manuel, Max Olson, Rhoda Peterson, Brianna Rainey, Rowland Snyder, Isabella Snyder, Torek Swensen, Gabe Triplett, JJ Triplett and Sylvia Wilting.

Both the U19 and U14 teams begin their season on April 11 and will continue playing through the middle of the June.
