Local agencies want to explain their work

Havre and the Hi-Line are being treated to a meal Monday night.

Everyone is invited to St Jude Parish Center, 6 to 8 p.m.

The sponsoring groups, the Salvation Army’s Havre Service Center, Feed My Sheep Soup Kitchen and the Havre Food Bank want to explain to the public what they do and how they serve the needy in the Havre area.

They will also honor their volunteers, the people who provide most of the day-in and day-out services to people.

“We couldn't do this without the help of volunteers” said Trina Crawford, the director of the Salvation Army’s Havre Service Center.

The Salvation Army provides emergency services to people in need, such as finding a hotel room for people with no place else to live or offering emergency money to pay heating bills.

That money comes from donations to the Red Kettle Campaign each holiday season and donations from community residents and businesses.

Feed My Sheep offers free lunches for people at noon, six days a week. it depends entirely on donations from churches, businesses and community residents.

The Havre Food Bank provides take-home food products for people in need.

Food comes from donations from area stores, collections made around town at churches, schools and other civic events. Local residents, businesses and civic groups make donations to keep it going.

Other than a part-time director, it depends on volunteer help.

Monday night’s program is aimed at recognizing those who help out at their programs while explaining what they do to the general public.

The annual event is always a good time, Crawford said.

Ila McClenahan, the pastoral care director at Northern Montana Health Care, will be the speaker.

Usually some people who have in the past received services from some of the organizations show up for the session, she said.

The agencies ask only that people interested in attending call the Salvation Army with an RSVP by Friday. The number is 265-6411.
