Library introduces robotics program

The Havre-Hill County Library has a new robotics program.

Robotics and Lego Time are Thursdays from 3:30 to 5 p.m. The time will change during the summer.

The Havre-Hill County Library Foundation kindly granted us $1,200 to purchase a robotics curriculum.

The robotics program chosen is from PCS Edventures out of Boise, Idaho. The library purchased one robotics kit with 12 different projects and four brains.

The projects range from building a simple pulley system to programming a brain to run your setup. Each program allows robots to interact with the physical world and respond to received stimuli, including touch, infrared, optical, LED and ultrasonic. Our robotics are compatible with Lego so that students can continue to build to make a more advanced project or create a project of their own when they are ready. The Cortex software is user-friendly with a drop-and-drag program making it easy for beginners yet offering advanced programming. All brains offer a Bluetooth option so you can program from any device that has Bluetooth capabilities. Robotics is a platform for teaching basic programming regarding mechanical output and data input.

Projects incorporate applied math, physics and engineering principles. The library is offering this program to teens age 13 and up. Younger students can participate; the library will allow a student 10 and up as long as they are assisted by an adult that is willing to participate in the building and programming process.

Robotics is fun, educational and a great way to spend time together.

All library programs are free and open to the public.

The Summer Reading Program, Every Hero Has a Story, begins June 10 at 10:30 a.m.

Library hours are:

• Mondays and Tuesdays 9 a.m.- 9 p.m.

• Wednesdays and Thursdays 9 a.m. - 6 p.m.

• Fridays 9 a.m.-.5 p.m,

• Saturday noon to 5 p.m.
