Neal McCoy concert set for Sunday

Multi-platinum country music singer, Neal McCoy will perform a concert Sunday at Montana State University-Northern's Armory Gym at 7 p.m. Comedian Brad Upton will open the show.

This event is sponsored by the Havre Police Protective Association.

With No. 1 singles including, "No Doubt About It" and "Wink" from his 1994 platinum-selling album, "No Doubt About It," McCoy has sold more than six million records.

McCoy said this will be his first time coming to Havre and that his favorite part about performing is putting smiles on people's faces.

"We're just going to bring a lot of entertainment with us. My band and I - our whole goal is to entertain people that come to see us, and we do that by telling jokes and great music and being pretty spontaneous," he said.

McCoy said he draws his inspiration from country music singer, Charley Pride. McCoy met Pride in 1981.

"Charley took me under his wing and I got to open shows with him through the '80's all over the world," McCoy said. "My biggest inspiration and biggest mentor and friend in the business is Charley Pride. He's the one that helped me get started."

McCoy is also involved with a lot of charity work. In 1995, he and his wife, Melinda founded the East Texas Angel Network, an organization that helps children in the Northeast Texas area who have life-threatening or life-challenging illnesses.

"You just need to do what you can to help other people, to just give back to the community that you're raised in and just help folks wherever you can," McCoy said.

McCoy added that he just started working on a new project.

"I am working on a big band album which is kind of what they call 'The Great American Songbook,'" he said.

Dylan Kulla, a Havre police officer, said a portion of the proceeds from this event will go toward MSU-N scholarships and various community programs.

"During Christmas time, we'll go to the Angel Tree and buy gifts for children in need - families in need," he said. "We're all looking forward to (the concert)."

Tickets are $36 and can be bought at the Havre Police Department, 520 4th St. or purchased at the door.
