Letter to the Editor: Dritshulas, Lotton praised for construction of new hotel

Editor:

As a community we have to give full credit to Bill Dritshulas and Lotton Construction Co. for creating one of the most spectacular man-made views in north-central Montana.

When you drive west on U.S. Highway 2 or 2nd Street in the early morning or late evening, the new motel-tourist center they have created on Havre’s west hill is indeed remarkable. The newly built center, whose construction is still being completed, stands out in the sunset or the morning sky like a large, medieval castle with decorative turrets from which to view the surrounding region.

A view of equal splendor is that overlooking the city of downtown Havre from the site of the new structure. To the north you have a remarkable view of the austere badland area, which is quite unique to this part of the country.

The beautiful wooded, Milk River can be seen running for many miles west of Havre past the north Havre housing and community through the lengthy railroad yards of BNSF Railway.

The railroad yards are a center of immense visual interest as is the view of downtown Havre running east along Highway 2. The view of downtown Havre from the west hill provides the extended look at a busy thoroughfare unequalled in the entire length of Highway 2 across the northern stretch on the United  States.

Also of much interest, of course, is the historic buffalo jump along the bluffs over the Milk River just to the west of the newly built motel structure.

And an easy walk across the highway from the remarkable hilltop tourist center is the site of the Hill County fairgrounds and rodeo area.

We look forward with immense interest and curiosity to the opening of this unusual new center for the community of Havre — unique for tourists and local residents alike,

Bill Thackeray
