Talent to perform Saturday to help Salvation Army

Some of the finest talent on the Hi-Line will be featured at the annual benefit concert for the Salvation Army.

The show will be 7 p.m. Saturday at Havre High School.

The annual event is always fun to put on, said Trina Crawford, the director of the Salvation Army’s Havre Service Center.

There are few repeat performances from earlier concerts, she said.

“We have so much talent on the Hi-Line we can showcase new people every year.”

Tickets are $5 a person in advance and $10 the night of the show, she said. For that, people can see:

• T.J. Overcast and Brad Taylor in Dueling Guitars.

• Jacob Zilkosi and Jeremiah Headdress on the piano and flute

• Talent from the North Star Dance Studio

• Havre Barbershop Quartet

• The High Plains Group

The money from the program will help the Salvation Army in maintaining new programs it has recently started, Crawford said.

In addition to its usual effort of providing emergency assistance, Crawford said, the Salvation Army has been undertaking a program to get people back on their feet.

For instance, the Salvation Army is now helping a woman in her 30s who worked her entire life until about six months ago when she was laid off.

She is now caring for her child and her mother, and she has no income.

Under its traditional program the woman would get emergency help — aid paying utilities or help with rent.

Under the new program, she said, the Salvation Army can work with her in looking for a new job, budgeting her money and setting priorities, she said.

Some people have successfully completed the program, she said, and at least one couple has come back to volunteer with the Salvation Army, she said.

The program was started last year with as a result of some one-time-only donations. But if the program is to continue, some extra money will have to be raised, Crawford said.

The annual Christmas Kettle program was highly successful this year, she said, but the annual mail appeal raised less than usual.

And few people are coming in off the street to make donations, she said.
