Havre students raise $6,000 for heart research

Around 80 students participated in Jump Rope for Health and raised more than $6,000 for the American Heart Association.

In the jump rope competition portion of the event, young students tried their hands and feet at jump roping as long as they could.

From the second-grade, Macee May had the longest jump rope time with 9 minutes and 36 seconds.

From the third-grade, Maleigha Azure-Fuzesy took first with 36 minutes and 21 seconds straight jump roping.

Shyla Solomon was a special guest, as she was the top-grossing raiser of funds with $375.

Trevor VanCampen, a physical education teacher in charge of the program, said that Lincoln-McKinley Primary School alone has raised more than $20,000 in the program in the last four years. The students raise the funds by asking community members for donations.

"They really get into it," VanCampen said. "It's pretty neat to see."

He said that the kids work very hard to practice their jump-roping and reaching out to the community.
