Obituary - Jean Mae (Jones) Shambo

Jean Mae "Jones" Shambo, 82, left this earth to be with our loving creator on May 24, 2015, of natural causes, surrounded by her family at Northern Montana Hospital in Havre, Montana.  

Wake services will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2015, at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's Mission Recreation Center in Hays. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2015, at 11 a.m. at  St. Paul's Mission Church.

Jean was born Feb. 1, 1933, to Cecil and Evangeline (Turcotte) Jones. She was raised at Cow Creek, the old Jim Kipp place, attending school at Chinook and St. Paul Mission High School and graduated in 1950. She then attended the College of Great Falls, where she graduated with a teaching degree in 1971.

Jean became a Head Start teacher and then taught at the Hays School until she retired in 1992. Jean married Louie Shambo in 1951 and their union was blessed with 10 children.

Jean enjoyed playing bingo and going to the casino to play the machines. She also enjoyed watching her kids and grandkids play sports. Her biggest joy was spending time with her family.

She is survived by her loving husband, Louie, at the family home in Hays. Daughters surviving are Sherry Shambo, Janice (John) Brockie, Sandy (Stan) Zander, Debra (John) Hawley and Kay (Ken) Morin, all of Hays. Sons surviving her are Louis (Jeannette) Shambo of West Palm Beach, Florida, and Anthony (Mikkie Grant) Shambo, Reno Shambo and Craig (Sherry) Shambo, all of Hays. Jean had 36 grandchildren, 72 great-grandkids and three great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are two sisters, Leona Fox and Sharon Quincy of Hays, and sister-in-law, Sophie LaTray, of Chinook.

Preceding her in death were her loving son, John Shambo; grandsons, Chad Shambo, John Edger Brockie, Shawn Shambo and Swede Shambo; her parents, Cecil and Evangaline (Turcotte) Jones; and brothers, Cecil "Buck" Jones, Medric Jones and James "Jimmy" Jones; and sisters, Thelma Nicholson, Ilene Cheyney, Barbara Werk and Vernie Jones.
