Obituary - John P. Mastel

John P. Mastel, 91, of Havre, died at the Northern Montana Care Center on May 22, 2015.  

He was born Nov. 9, 1923, in Great Falls, Montana, the second child of six born to John and Philamina (Schlick) Mastel. He was educated in Great Falls then came to Havre where he worked for Burlington Northern Railroad for more than 42 years.   

John lived at 437 2nd Ave. in Havre for most of his time in Havre. He was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church. John enjoyed collecting jewelry with fine gemstones, guns and studying World War II history.  

John was the last surviving sibling in his family, being preceded in death by his parents; his sister and her husband, Anna (Emil) Cassell; his sister, Barbara Stone; his infant sister shortly after birth; his brother, Ralph Mastel and his wife, Angel; and his brother, George Mastel.  

John is survived by his late brother George's wife, Diane Mastel, his only remaining sister-in-law; his nephew and his wife Larry and Sue Cassell of Great Falls; along with numerous nieces and nephews and extended relatives.  

Graveside services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday, May 29, 2015, at Highland Cemetery, with Father Dan Wathen officiating.
