Local Golf Report: I promise, I didn't forget you ladies

From Tee to Green...

I think it can be said I’m a huge supporter of women’s golf. After all, my wife is one of my closest golfing partners every summer. But, I owe the women of Havre a big apology.

For whatever reason, whether my email was messing up, or I just didn’t see it, I missed the results for the first two weeks of women’s league golf at Prairie Farms. So, I humbly apologize ladies. I promise I didn’t leave you out on purpose.

So, we’ll start this week’s column, which is a day late due to Memorial Day, with the ladies. Last week saw D.A. Davidson score 27 points to earn high-team honors. The team was composed of Nicole Yazzie, Melanie Gilman, Paula Sheppard and Patsy Divish. Kelsey Ward was low gross with a 40, while Divish was low net with a 32.

Speaking of the ladies, June 6 is the Havre Women’s Golf Association is Women Golfing for a Cure for Cancer Tournament.

This year's tournament will be held June 6 at Prairie Farms Golf Course and will be a way to support those battling all forms of cancer. Last year, the association raised approximately $20,000 to assist in defraying the costs associated with cancer to anyone along the Hi-Line who is making the courageous battle with any type of cancer.

The same day, the Havre Wrestling Club will hold its annual tournament at Beaver Creek Golf Course. The annual Havre Wrestling Club Tournament will be held that day, as a 4-person scramble. Cost is $75 per player. For more information, call the Pro Shop at BCGC at 265-4201.

Men’s league action is also ongoing at Prairie Farms. Last Tuesday saw Property West score 25.5 points, as Vince Scofield, Darin Boss, Kurt Johnson and Brad Baldwin made up the squad. Kyle Sheppard fired an outstanding, 4-under par 32 for low gross, while Gerry Veis was low net with a 31. Last Wednesday night saw Bear paw Credit Union score 27.5 points for high team. The team was composed of Jeremy Jensen, Jeff Jensen, Al Vukasin and Lowell Swensen. Jordy Donovan and Matt Hedstrom were low gross, each shooting a round of 36, while Jim Heberly was low net with a 31.
