'Today' show looks at Havre Historic Post Office

The Today Show will be in Havre June 26 in preparation for a story on Havre Historic Post Office.

Dr. Marc Whitacre, who with his wife, Dr. Erica Farmer, rehabilitated the deteriorating building, got a phone call at work from producers at the show who had read a story that appeared in Lee Enterprises’ Montana newspapers about the successful effort to save the building from the wrecking ball.

The historic structure is now their residence, houses several offices and has become an events center for the community.

Whitacre said he stressed to the producers of the popular NBC morning show that the work is not done, they are still rehabilitating the third floor, the old federal courtroom.

“They said that was fine, they wanted to get us working,” he said.

They told him that they would spend a day to get to Havre, spend a day in town, and spend a day to return home.

Suspicious, Whitacre said he traced the phone number, and found that it was indeed from Channel 5, the NBC affiliate in Chicago.

He said he was uncertain just what kind of piece the “Today” show producers were planning.
