Chinook stars to play in 8-man All-Star game

A pair of recently graduated Chinook athletes will put their football pads on one more time this weekend.

Chinook’s Gavin Gunderson and Lane Seymour will both play in the The 32nd Bob Cleverley 8-man Football All-Star Game Saturday night in Butte. Both Chinook stars helped lead the Sugarbeeters to the Class C 8-man state championship game last November, and both will play for the North-South Red Team on Saturday night at Montana Tech’s Alumni Coliseum.

Gunderson, who was also selected to play in the Montana-North Dakota Badlands Bowl later this summer, was an All-State linebacker and running back for the Beeters this past season, while Seymour earned All-State honors at wide receiver. Seymour also just completed a rare feat, earning Class C All-State honors in three sports in one season. He was also an All-State basketball player during the winter, and an All-State golfer this spring.

Overall, there are 12 players from the Northern C playing in Saturday night’s game. Along with Seymour and Gunderson, the Northern C is represented by Belt’s Colton Swanson, Tyler Norstedt and Paxton Maki, Cascade’s Swayer Evans, Great Falls Central’s Reid Nelson, Nolan Danisthorpe and Carter Anderson, Power-Dutton-Brady’s Travis Willmarth and Simms’ Devan Goode and Zack Clausen. The Red Team is led by Ennis head coach Jay Fredrickson.

The Bob Cleverley game will kick off at 7 p.m. Saturday night in Butte and can be heard locally on 101.3 KRYK FM.
