Griz, Cat fans can see every game this fall

All of UM and MSU's football games will be televised again this season

There’s nothing quite like attending University of Montana and Montana State University football games on Saturday’s in the fall. After all, the settings in both Missoula and Bozeman are as good as it gets in college football.

However, for fans of both teams who can’t make it to each and every home game, you won’t miss a beat.

Both UM and MSU recently announced that all 22 Griz and Bobcat football games will be televised this coming season, starting with Montana’s highly-anticipated season-opener against four-time Football Championship Subdivision defending champion North Dakota State. The game between the Grizzlies and Bison, set for Aug. 29 in Missoula, will kick off ESPN’s college football season. It’s the only college football game that Saturday, and will be televised nationally with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff set at Washington-Grizzly Stadium.

The Grizzlies, under new head coach Bob Stitt, will also play five more times on national television, as part of Root Sports’ Big Sky Conference television package. UM’s games to be broadcast by Root include, The Griz’ Homecoming game against Northern Arizona Sept. 26. That game will also be the game in which Montana honors the 20-year anniversary of the 1995 national championship team. The Griz play on Root the following Saturday at UC Davis, as well as Oct. 24 at home against North Dakota and a huge Nov. 14 showdown with Eastern Washington in Missoula.

The rest of UM’s games will broadcast by Cowles Montana Media and local ABC/Fox Affiliates. Those games include Montana’s Sept. 5 home game against Cal Poly, a Sept. 19 road trip to Liberty, an Oct. 10 home game against Weber State, and back-to-back road games at Portland State and Idaho State Oct. 31 and Nov. 7.

Cowles will also televise six Montana State games this fall, including the Cats’ season-opener, which will be a Thursday night game Sept. 3 against NCAA Division II Fort Lewis. Other Cowles games include MSU’s Homecoming game against Cal Poly Sept. 26, a road trip to NAU Oct. 3, a non-conference home game against FCS East Tennessee State Oct. 24, a trip to UND Oct. 31 and a visit to Idaho State Nov. 14.

The Cats will also appear on Root Sports four times, including the first Root game of the season, a non-conference battle with Eastern Washington Sept. 19 in Cheney, Washington. For the second straight season, the game between MSU and EWU kicks off Roots’ Big Sky coverage. Other MSU games on Root include a home game against Sacramento State Oct. 10 and a road trip to Portland State Oct. 17, as well as a home game against Southern Utah Nov. 7.

Of course, Root Sports’ most important game of its Big Sky package will come Nov. 21 when the 115th Brawl of the Wild takes place in Bozeman. The annual game between Montana and Montana State will be broadcast nationwide on Root for the fourth straight season.

Other than Montana’s afternoon game with NDSU on ESPN, and Montana State’s game with Fort Lewis, which will be either a 6 or 7 p.m. kickoff at Bobcat Stadium, game times have not been set for the rest of either team’s schedule.
