Cars on display this weekend for rod run

For 28 years, the Hi-Line Cruz'n Association has held a rod run that attracts people from throughout Montana and beyond.

The tradition continues this weekend, when more than 50 cars and their owners are expected for the 29th edition.

The public is invited to see the cars on display 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at the Great Northern Fairgrounds.

The owners delight to talking to visitors and telling the story of their cars, said Craig Otterstrom, a longtime association member.

Some of the cars will be new, but a good many will be classic cars that are either totally restored or are older cars contain some newer parts, he said.

He said it is fun to see people of different ages look at the classic cars.

For some, he said, it brings back memories. For younger people, "they sort of look at you and say 'people used to ride around in that?'"

Many participants come from around Montana, he said, but many come from Canada. This year some are coming from as far away as California.

Registration for the weekend activities starts Friday night, he said.

After the cars are shown, he said, the drivers will go on a Poker Run around the streets of Havre Saturday afternoon.

Passersby are always happy to see the cars on the street, he said.

The highlight of the weekend is Saturday night's dinner. More than 200 people have already signed up, he said.

Then there is a farewell breakfast Sunday morning before participants head home.
