Woman charged with stealing from Havre North 40

Police say she tried to sell goods on Internet

Selena Gibbs has pleaded not guilty to a charge filed that says she committed theft by common scheme, a felony, by stealing merchandise from Havre’s North 40 Outfitters and selling it online in Great Falls.

According to deputies’ accounts, she was confronted by Great Falls Police officers after they met up with her to buy items she was selling. Once a deal was complete, the account reads, the officers told her who they were and she turned over equipment she was trying to sell and admitted stealing the items.

Gibbs worked at the Havre store for approximately five months. According to the account, she said she did not start taking merchandise until January or February 2015.

“Gibbs said when she would put merchandise away she would occasionally set items that she liked aside,” the account reads. “Gibbs said she usually took merchandise she set aside when she was leaving for lunch or when she left early for the day.”

She added that oftentimes, she was the only one working in her department, which would make it easier for her to steal the items.

A deputy contacted the Havre North 40 Outfitters store and brought him the items Gibbs was selling, so that the manager could scan the items to figure a total.

Of what was left of the items Gibbs supposedly was trying to sell, there were 61 pieces for a total of $2,215.39.

The Havre Police Department took custody of more evidence from the Great Falls Police Department, went to North 40 to scan the 19 items and the amount raised to $2,666.61.

She has a trial scheduled for June 22 at 2:30 p.m., in the Hill County Courthouse with District Judge Daniel Boucher.
