Northwestern Energy wins fastpitch city title

The heat is arriving, and the softball at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field was exciting as the Havre Girls Fastpitch Association wrapped up its A-League Tournament.

On Thursday night at the Sixth Avenue Memorial Field, NorthWestern Energy and Independence Bank battled through not one, but two championship games to settle the city title.

In the first tilt, the unbeaten NorthWestern Energy squad was beaten by Independence Bank in a thriller, 12-10. That set up the winner-take-all game, which was eventually won by NorthWestern Energy. The NorthWestern Energy squad was made up of Olivia Bischoff, Janae Boles, Ashlynn Brandon, Lauren Kato, Maddy Corcoran, Jerra Verploegen, Abby Morse, Talia Reed, Alicia Small, Peyton Haas and Abby Corcoran.

Independence Bank, which finished second, was composed of Sam Oliver, Payton Brown, Kyndall Keller, Alex Barkus, Katie Wirtzberger, Savanna Dawson, Tymarie Huitt, Maddison Shennum, Maggie Frausto and Pharyl Top Sky.

J.M. Donoven finished third overall in the tourney, which started Monday night. In last week’s B-League championship, Wolfers defeated Downtowner for the championship.
