Havre heat breaks record

Havre broke its own record for hot June 28s with a recorded high of 103 Sunday.

The old record was 100 set in 2006.

Keith Jaszka, a meteorologist at the Great Falls office of the National Weather Service Forecast, said that it has been hotter than usual lately.

“High temperatures as of late have been record highs,” Jaszka said. “So, they have been unusual for this time of year.”

Great Falls is slated to break its record today.

Missoula, Kalispell and Butte also broke record alongside Havre with recorded highs on a June 28. The record-setting heat wave was more or less limited to central and western Montana.

The state high Sunday was 106 in two places: Plains and Libby.

Tuesday Havre is expecting a high of 92 with a 20 percent chance of isolated thunderstorms tonight and Wednesday a high of 88 with a 30 percent chance of thunderstorms continuing into that night. Thursday’s high is 87 and Friday’s jumps back up to 99.
