Letter to the Editor: Bombshells thank community for backing

Editor:

Bullhook Bombshells Havre Roller Derby League would like to let the community know what has been in the works and what we have already accomplished.

We were founded in November 2014, and a wild idea fueled by our ambition has become a local sport that has not only found a home, but community support followed by a steady increase in participants.

We would like to graciously thank our official sponsor, the Havre Eagles Club 166 for its generous donation of $225 for gear. We were able to suit up a couple more girls and get them skating with this donation.

Thank you so much for your constant support!

The Bullhook Bombshells would like to thank Mike Sharp and the Great Northern Fair Board for their unanimous decision to allow us to use their Community Center building for practices, boot camps and further training.

We want to thank Ryan Bedwell from Hi-Way 2 Tattoo for our impressive logo. We love it. And we thank Fiveheads, as well, for being patient with us and getting us the look we want with our shirts.

I, personally, would like to thank Dawn O’Meara, Blake Eden and Janiene Hieb from the Electric City Roller Grrrlz, for their never-ending wealth of information.

And a huge thank you goes to Katy Lowder, a former local who now plays Roller Derby in Washington, for coming to visit us during the Fourth of July weekend to show us some drills and techniques. We have utilized them and it’s amazing watching the progress! All the Montana teams have been so helpful and incredibly supportive. It has really made the idea of what we are doing come to life in a way we never thought possible.

We will be practicing twice a week. Wednesdays we train at 6:30 p.m., which will soon be in the Community Center at the fairgrounds, and we will resume Sunday evenings at 6:30 at the Havre Skate Park until summer is over.

We will soon be introducing and training our junior team, the Bullhook Brats. This team will be for ages 5-17. We will be pulling 17-year-olds to skate with the Bombshells once they have met the basic requirements.

Please keep an eye out for our kid’s carnival in August.

Our teams are primarily female, but men can join as referees, coaches and several more non-skating official ranks. To join either team or to inquire, please contact Amber Wells at 707-951-6679, or head over to your Facebook and search for “Bullhook Bombshells” or “Bullhook Brats.”

We look forward to the future of roller derby in Havre. We are excited and ready to show Havre not only how roller derby is played, but also the many benefits roller derby has for our community.

Thank you everyone so very much for your support.

The Bullhook Bombshells
