HHS Homecoming activities underway

In keeping with longstanding tradition, Havre High School will kick off its homecoming week festivities today.

The series of themed dress-up days, sporting events and social activities which are put on by the Pep Club and Student Congress is meant to build school spirit among students, staff and the community.

Today is America Day, where students are encouraged to don red, white and blue or patriotic attire. Later in the day, the Blue Ponies sophomore football team will face off against Charles M. Russell High School at a 4:30 p.m. home game.

Students on Tuesday will be encouraged to put on their bermuda shorts and dress like tourists as they decorate the school hallways with themes decided by each class. There will be a softball game at the 6th Avenue Memorial Field in the evening.

The names of this year's homecoming king and queen will be revealed at the 9 a.m. coronation ceremony on Wednesday in the school auditorium. Students will wear formal attire that day.

On Throwback Thursday, students are encouraged to wear vintage clothing, as the volleyball team plays an away game at Great Falls High School.

Students can declare their Pony pride by wearing blue and white Friday, a message that can be further amplified during a 2:25 p.m. pep assembly in the school auditorium. A parade will also take place at 4 p.m. with floats built by each class. There will be a home game at the football field. A homecoming dance is set take place on the football field after the game. If there is rain the dance will take place in the high school cafeteria from 9 p.m. until midnight.

The parade will be followed by a barbeque and a football game at home against Livingston at 7 p.m.

Saturday at 10 a.m., a cross country meet is set to start at at Montana State University-Northern. Three home volleyball games against Browning will also take place Friday at 2 p.m., 3:30 p.m. and 5 p.m.
