Hi-Line Football Roundup: Harlem wins first game of the season

Coming into last weekend's game, the Chinook football team had yet to be tested. Many thought a solid Belt team could be the first to give the Sugarbeeters a run for their money, but in the end, Belt was no match.

Thanks to another dominating defensive performance and an overpowering ground game, the Beeters cruised to a 44-0 win over the Huskies last Friday at Hoon Field to improve to 5-0 on the season.

Ian McIntosh ran for two touchdowns and threw for two more in the win for Chinook, while the defense registered its third shutout in five games. Not only did the Chinook defense keep Belt off the scoreboard, it managed to put up some points of its own as Jake Norby returned a fumble 42 yards late in the first half to give the Beeters a 30-0 halftime lead.

McIntosh may have been the star of the show for the Beeters on offense, but he got plenty of help from Kenny Pruttis, who caught a pair of touchdowns in the game.

Derek Bell also found pay dirt thanks to a 50-yard touchdown run.

The Beeters will look to stay unbeaten Friday when they will visit Power-Dutton-Brady in a Northern C 8-Man contest. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.

Chester/J-I 76, Cascade 6

While Chinook certainly looks like one of the best teams in 8-Man football, the Chester/J-I Hawks are going to have something to say about which team is the best in the Northern C. And last Friday they showed once again just how good they are with a 76-6 win over Cascade.

The Hawks have scored 64 points or more in each of their last four games and are now 5-0 on the season.

C/J-I will host Simms Friday night in Chester in the Hawks final game before their showdown with Chinook Oct. 14.

Elsewhere along the Hi-Line, in Six-Man North Division action, the Box Elder Bears wrapped up their first playoff berth in nearly two decades with a 53-12 thumping of Heart Butte in Box Elder Saturday.

The Bears jumped out to a 28-6 lead at the end of the first quarter, thanks to a pair of rushing touchdowns by both Shane Ketchum and Bodis Duran and from there Box Elder never looked back.

Ketchum finished the day with three total touchdowns as he added a receiving score later in the game. Quarterback Brandon The Boy also had a stellar outing with three touchdown passes in the win.

The Bears are now 6-0 on the season and will put their perfect record on line this Saturday on the road against Westby/Grenora in a non-conference tilt.

Despite the loss, Weston Alderdice had an outstanding game for the Pioneers with three touchdowns, including one that came on a 73-yard kickoff return for a score in the fourth quarter.
