Hi-Line Volleyball Roundup: Beeters complete another perfect 6C season

The last week of high school volleyball on the Hi-Line was a big one — especially for the Chinook Sugarbeeters, who had a chance to go unbeaten in District 6C East play for the second straight year.

But, following a sweep of Hays-Lodge Pole Friday night, one last obstacle stood in Chinook’s way — the rival North Star Knights. But on senior night in Rudyard last Saturday night, the Knights just weren’t up to the challenge of knocking off the powerful Beeters.

In a three-set sweep, Chinook closed out its perfect regular season with a win by scores of 25-20, 25-22 and 25-19. Abigail Ellison continued her fine play for the Beeters by tallying nine kills in the win, while Sierra Swank had 16 assists and Cortney Gunderson had four aces and 14 digs. North Star, which finished second in the 6C East, got nine kills and two blocks from Sheridan O’Neil, while Graysen Spicher totaled 22 assists and two aces. Chinook will now go into this week’s 6C East Tournament as the top seed.

Last week was also a good one for Chester/J-I, which closed out its season with a pair of victories.

Last Monday, the Hawks dominated the Big Sandy Pioneers by scores of 25-9, 25-8 and 25-8. Erin Wolfe had 12 kills and five digs for the Hawks, while Jeraca Tempel had four aces and 10 assists. Big Sandy got a kill and a block from Lisa Pegar in the loss.

C/J-I was equally as good on Thursday night. The Hawks toppled Box Elder by scores of 25-12, 25-15 and 25-17. Allix Goldhahn had 10 kills for the Hawks, while Madeline Woods had 10 assists. The Bears were led by Nikayla Anderson’s three kills and two assists.

The Bears were also part of a critical match on Saturday night, the last night of the regular season. But, they couldn’t overtake the young Big Sandy Pioneers. In the 6C East finale, Big Sandy beat Box Elder by scores of 25-22, 23-25, 25-21 and 25-20 in what was a very close match.

Alana Ostrom had 12 kills and Jenna Leader had 22 assists for the Pioneers. Box Elder got six kills and three blocks from Tia Russell.

And the weekend wasn’t all bad for North Star either. On Friday night, the Knights took care of Big Sandy by scores of 25-11, 25-18 and 25-12. Sheridan O’Neil had 11 kills and Sheridan Spicher had four aces for the Knights.

Now, area teams will get ready for district tournament action. The 6C East tourney runs Thursday and Friday in Rudyard, with the top three teams advancing to next week’s Northern C Divisonal. Meanwhile, Rocky Boy will be at the District 1B Tournament Friday and Saturday in Fairfield, and Harlem will play in the 2B Tournament Friday and Saturday in Glasgow.
