Saturday's Prep Football: BEETERS ARE STATE CHAMPS

Box Elder falls to DGS in Six-Man title game

CHINOOK - The Chinoook Sugarbeeters wanted redemption after losing to Wibaux in the 2014 Class C state championship game. They got it and then some Saturday at Hoon Field in Chinook, as the Beeters finished a perfect season with a 44-20 win over Arlee in the Class C 8-man state championship game.

Chinook overcame a slow start, and four first-half turnovers, as well as a 6-0 Arlee lead at the end of the first quarter. From there however, the Beeters did what they do, play defense and run the football. Ian McIntosh and Derek Bell scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions to give the Beeters a 16-12 lead, and a TD reception by Kenny Pruttis, one of two on the day, gave Chinook a 22-12 lead at halftime. From there, the Beeters pounded the ball on the ground the second half, and wound up rushing for over 300 yards en route to their second state championship in five years.

"It's hard to describe, it's pretty surreal," said Chinook head coach Scott Friede. "To get back here two years in a row, and to finish it the way we did, I'm just so proud of these kids. I'm so happy for them, and our coaching staff and for everybody in this community. It's very special."

McIntosh threw for two scores and rushed for another, while Pruttis caught two TD passes, and as usual, Derek Bell and Tate Niederegger both went over 100 yards for the Beeters in their thrilling win.

Chinook also capped off a perfect season in which it went 12-0 and was Northern C champions for the second straight year.

Stanford - Down the road, the dream of winning a championship for the Box Elder Bears was dashed by a powerful DGS squad Saturday. The Bearcats beat the Bears 60-34 in the Six-Man state championship game in Stanford.

DGS went undefeated for the season, while Box Elder's only two losses all year came at the hands of the Bearcats. In the loss, Shane Ketchum, Brandon The Boy and Bodis Duran all scored TD's for the Bears, who finished their magical season at 12-2 and as the state runner-up.
