Our View: Hi-Line darts and laurels

Laurel — The Havre High School Choir performed at a concert Thursday night ,. It is the first of many concerts planned for the holiday season by the music departments throughout the school district. We have an excellent music staff that is very knowledgeable on how to best capture the talent of our students and shape it into fine music. In coming week, make sure you attend a concert at the area schools or see music groups in public concerts. You will be glad you did.

Dart — A prisoner who was charged with attempted homicide and criminal escape managed to escape in downtown Havre while being transported back to Fort Belknap Indian Reservation. We think the public has a right to know just what happened. What is the story behind Gabriel Arkinson’s  arrest? How did he manage to escape? He had already escaped custody once before? What is becoming of him? These are all questions we couldn‘t get answered last week, so we included the Fort Belknap tribal government in this column last week. One week later, still no response. In the court system, police and officials all point to tribal vice chair George Horse Capture. But he has been unavailable for two weeks now. Yippie. We got in touch with him on Thursday. Guess what? It’s not George Horse Capture we need to talk to, it’s Mark Azure, the tribal chair. Guess what? He’s not available.

Laurel — Last weekend, Havre put on its Christmas spirit. The Santa Run attracted a lot of people dressed to the nines in Christmas attire. The annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony was as impressive as ever, and the annual Festival of Trees raised $45,000 for the great programs the Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line provides. Congratulations to all who took part in the events.
