MAT sets Valentine's Day fundraiser

Lovers of burlesque theater, cocktails and fine food will be able celebrate Valentine’s Day in style this year, when Montana Actors’ Theatre hosts a night of burlesque and martinis Feb. 16 at the Havre Historic Post Office.

“Valentine’s Day Burlesque and Martinis” is being organized by MAT and sponsored by Custom Collision Repair.

Burlesque is a form of satirical performance that incorporates elements of physical and sexual comedy with musical theater.

“We’ve done a Valentine’s Day event for the past couple years, and we just wanted to change it up a little this year,” said Jay Pyette, MAT’s artistic director.

Pyette said in past years, MAT has usually put on a traditional cabaret show.

“On the night itself, we are offering quite a bit,” he said.

The activities will begin at 6 p.m. with a social hour, where those in attendance can mingle and enjoy beverages, including specialty martinis.

A dinner consisting of a mild curry chicken will be served with an assortment of side dishes.

The performances will begin at 8 p.m. James Carden, a local comedian, will provide the opening act.

The Cigarette Girls, a Missoula-based burlesque troupe, will be the main act.

Mini Tonka, a nationally renowned burlesque performer, will also perform.

Tickets are $50 per person or $100 per couple, which will cover the cost of beverages, food and entertainment.

All proceeds from ticket sales go to MAT.

Tickets can be purchased from MAT, Five Heads, Bear Paw Meats, Greytak Realty and Computer Center.
