Ice Hawks split in Miles City

The Havre Ice Hawks will next take the ice the at the state tournament. But before they get there, they played two close games with the Miles City generals this past weekend.

Closing out their regular season in Miles City, the Ice Hawks forged a tie Saturday afternoon, before suffering a tight loss Sunday morning.

In Saturday's game, Havre battled the Generals to a 4-4 tie. Alex Stilger scored twice for the Ice Hawks, once in the first period on assists from Barrett Kilgore and Noah Kirsch, and another in the second on an unassisted goal. Kilgore also got a power play goal in the second, on assists from Kade Friede and Jeffrey Ralph, while the tying goal came from August Eacker on an assists by Kilgore.

Havre goalie Bay Merker saved 28 out of 32 Miles City shots, while the Havre offense had 44 shots on goal.

Havre skated well again Sunday, but couldn't quite hold off the Generals in a 5-4 loss.

Stilger connected on a first-period goal on an assist by Kade Friede, while Friede and Kyle Kirkpatrick assisted on a Kilgore goal in the first. Kirsch scored an unassisted goal in the second period, while Kirkpatrick scored a power-play goal in the third on an assist from Friede.

The Generals scored four power-play goals, while Merker had 33 saves on 33 Miles City shots.

The Ice Hawks will now get ready for a return trip to the Miles City when they play in the state tournament March 10-12.
