Our View: Vote for Havre Beneath the Streets

We at the Havre Daily News shy away from telling people who to vote for. We express our opinions, some would say spout off, but we don’t endorse candidates or express views on just how to vote.

We are making an exception, though. Voting is taking place this month. We think the decision is clear cut and want people to get behind the cadidate.

USA Today is conducting a nationwide survey. It has nominated 20 underground attractions and is asking people to choose which one is the best.

We admit to being biased, but we think Havre Beneath the Streets is the obvious choice.

For a look at history, for entertainment or for intrigue, we don’t think you can beat our own Havre Beneath the Streets. The exhibits have fascinated people for years.

We’re sure that other attractions have a lot to offer, but we’re sure they come in at best second place.

It would be tremendous publicity for our most popular attraction if it did well in the contest. And it would put Havre on the map, hopefully resulting in more people visiting the pride of the Hi-Line and boosting our tourism industry.

USA Today says that in other communities, political, economic and social leaders have united to support local attractions. They have undertaken drives to convince people to cast their ballots for the local attraction.

We call on Havre community leaders to do the same here. Rally the populace to get behind Havre Beneath the Streets.

Let’s get some community fervor and start an effort to convince fellow residents to get behind the movement.

Come on mayors, commissioners, state lawmakers and others. Let’s get going

Join in the effort. All people have to do is go online to http://www.10best.com/awards/travel and cast a vote.
