Havre Beneath the Streets second in nationwide survey

Havre Beneath the Streets has finished second in voting to determine the best underground attraction in the United States.

USA Today, the nation’s third largest newspaper which conducted the survey, announced the results Friday.

Forestiere Underground Gardens of Fresno, California, finished on top in the voting.

USA Today nominated 20 underground attractions in the nationwide voting that has taken place for the last month.

In a news release, the newspaper said it would probably have a story in its print edition today.

Queen City Underground in Port Angeles, Washington, finished third the voting. Havre Beneath the Streets overtook the Washington attraction in the final hours of voting with a last-minute rush of votes.

Havre Beneath the Street portrays the businesses the attraction says were built beneath the streets after the fire of 1904 devastated the downtown area.The businesses range from a drug store to a den of prostitution.

It is the largest tourist attraction in the city.
