Three Ice Hawks picked for regional hockey camp

Three Havre Ice Hawks are traveling for amateur hockey District Evaluations Camp.

Trennis Riley (goalie), Connor Moomey and Bridger Staples all advanced out of the Montana Amateur Hockey Association Montana Player Development Camp earlier this month.

In all, five Ice Hawks attended the camp, which was a weekend of evaluations and fitness tests. For boys, on-ice and off-ice sessions are broken down by birth year and each player is individually evaluated by coaches from the state and region. The girls are grouped together and evaluated differently.

The evaluations are compiled, then the coaches pick the top athletes from each age group to move on to the Northern Plains District Camp, which is composed of players from Montana, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wyoming. Montana sends the top 5-6 skaters and top 1-2 goalies per group.

The Havre Ice Hawks making the trip will join the top skaters from the other states May 5-8 in Grand Forks, North Dakota at the new Icon Center.
