Local Golf Report: Beeters score well at own invite

From Tee to Green...

The rain went away last week and back came some incredible golfing conditions on the Hi-Line. And while the conditions were perfect throughout last week for men’s leagues and the start of ladies leagues in the area, they were also perfect for some high school golf.

Last Saturday, the Chinook Sugarbeeters played host to their Chinook Invitational at the Chinook Golf Club. The tournament featured Chinook, Malta, Belt, Centerville, Cascade and a host of other area schools, and the host Beeters did quite well.

Chinook won the boys meet with a score of 270, and the Beeters had four top-seven finishes, led by senior Derek Bell’s 86, which was first. Ian McIntosh placed second with an 87, while Jake Norby was fourth with a 97 and Jacob Huckabee was seventh with a 103.

On the girls side, Chinook was third with a 348. Carrie Hofer was fifth for the Beeters with a 112, while Allie Skoyen placed sixth with a 116. Ashley MacLeod placed ninth with a 120 and Kelsey Mathon placed 13th at 127. Harlem’s Kali Ditmar also finished 16th with a 153.

The Beeters will now get ready for the Class C state tournament May 16-18 in Hamilton.

Meanwhile, at Prairie Farms Golf Course, the ladies got their season started last Thursday night. On the first night of the season, there was a tie for high-team honors with Northern Montana Hospital, composed of Terri Earl, Carol Culp, Patti Nault and Kim Klein, and D.A. Davidson, made up of Patsy Divish, Shari Baltrusch, Karla Bolken and Paula Sheppard, each scoring 25.5 points. Low gross went to Julie Mariani with an excellent round of 39, while Dawn Ward was low net with a 33.5.

After a week of cancellations, the men got back to the course last week at Prairie Farms as well. Last Tuesday night saw Northern Edge earn high team with 20.5 points. The team was composed of Nate Baltrusch, Kyle Sheppard, Christian Oberquell and Justin Jensen. Sheppard was low gross with a one-under 35, while Tanner Veis and Greg Baltrusch were low net at 30.

Valley Furniture was high team last Wednesday night with 24.5 points. The squad was made up of Dave Peterson, Hoover Peterson, Cal Wirtzberger and Kerry Ward. Sheppard earned low gross with another 35, while Dave Peterson was low net with a 30.
